In the Abstract

Friday, I purchased Photo Shop Elements 5. I've been playing with it since Shabbat ended Saturday evening. I took the original of this photo and first converted it to black & white. Then I smoothed it. The fun part was adding the sponge paint feature. I've attempted to do similiar things with only HP Image Director and Photo Studio 5. Let me know what you think.

The Fringe

Hurricane Katrina hurt the the fringe. Most of the homeless shelters were destroyed. A few create makeshift camps at the beach. This one was located under the I-110 loop.

Nap Time

Pink House in Biloxi Revisited

Back in December, I first posted this picture. Its a home in Biloxi Mississippi on Highway 90 that had been damaged severly by Hurricane Katrina.

I revisited the house the last week of March.

Progress continues to be made in recovering from Hurricane Katrina. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is committed to rebuilding better and stronger. We've pulled together as a community. There is still so much work to do but we'll get it done. Also, the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been blessed with a literal army of volunteers. Over 500,000 have helped us tear down walls that were encrusted with mold and mildew. They have helped us clean-up debris. And now, they are helping us to repair and rebuild our homes.

Surreal

Images form the Mississippi Gulf Coast can be surreal at times. The woman in the photo was feeding the seagulls. A normal enough activity seen daily. But the background of a hotel being demolished makes it surreal. These are the sights I and others in Mississippi have been seeing the 19 months since Hurricane Katrina left a trail of destruction.
